I wanted to find somewhere that was among the hub-bub of Beverly Hills, with of course some reputation of celebrity sightings BUT most of all I just wanted a really good salad! NO matter which way I googled it, La Scala kept coming up, so it made sense to make the drive.
La Scala is a beautiful dimly lit dining room with four rows of banquets, ornate lamps along the wooden bench perimeter, and handsomely dressed waitstaff. The menu is laid out like a traditional Italian meal with antipasti, zuppe, and the rest with a particularly large section of chopped salads. Each comes in either a half or a full portion, with a healthy hearty portion of protein and veggies. Im a huge fan of chopped salads but it needs to have variety. These salads pile on the ingredients, with light dressing and enough variety to keep each salad interesting. We also ordered a La Scala grilled chicken salad with mixed greens, sundried tomatoes, goat cheese and roasted red bell peppers – a bounty of chunky veggies with the goat cheese pucks on the side. So good!
In addition to the half chopped salad I ordered some crab cakes yet they were so-so. But all the core elements of a great restaurant are there and Im super excited to go back for a traditional Italian meal.
